Early in December I received an email from an artist that I once met long ago in St. Petersburg, FL.  This email started by announcing, “You won my cup contest and I bet you didn’t even know you where entered.”  To celebrate the 10,000th viewer of his blog, Ben Carter picked a lucky individual to receive one of his White Honeysuckle Tumblers and that person was yours truly.  Just recently this gift arrived in the mail and it is certainly a nice cup to add to my collection.

Currently Ben Carter has an exhibition at the Charlie Cummings Gallery showing a variety of functional pottery and a few tumblers just like the one I now enjoy drinking from.  What’s particularly special about these cups is that they are thrown on the wheel with a Yixing stoneware clay body unique to China.

Ben resides in Shanghai and to learn more about his work visit his blog The Tales of a Red Clay Rambler as well as a nice post he wrote titled And the Winner is… Brett Freund

If you have flipped through the pages of the September 2011 issue of Ceramics Monthly you may have come across an article featuring an image of a piece that I exhibited in the 2011 NJSE and a few words about my work. Here is a link for more information on the other thirty-seven artists, a list of their schools, and the jurors behind this exhibtion.
